Almond Short Bread Biscuits

I have seen them in many Greek bakeries and they are called Kourabiedes. The children love the icing sugar sprinkled on top.

Recipe: Granma Yvonne

185 gr butter at room temperature

3 cups cake flour

1tsp baking powder

1 cup icing sugar

1 egg yolk

1tsp brandy or vanilla essence

50ml milk

Whole cloves




  • Work 2 tbsp icing sugar into the butter

  • Add the egg yolk and brandy

  • Sift flour and baking powder and add to butter.

  • Mix lightly until the mixture reaches a sandy texture.

  • Add milk and gather dough into a ball

  • Shape into little crescents and push one clove into each ball

  • Bake in preheat oven 190 oven for 10 to 15 min. Do not allow to brown

  • When cool, deep each biscuit into icing sugar and place on grease proof paper.
